Question
Is it possible to connect a CYCLE-TAINER solvent delivery system directly to an analytical instrument?
Answer

Solvent may be drawn by demand from a CYCLE-TAINER system by a sampling device or instrument pump (e.g. HPLC pump). If an instrument pump is used, apply a low interior gas pressure (< 0.5 psig) to blanket the solvent and protect it from the atmosphere.

Tubing for both gas and solvent should be attached to the CYCLE-TAINER system dispense head via Quick-Connects. Flexible stainless-steel or high quality PTFE tubing is recommended for gas and solvent lines. If PTFE tubing is used, ensure that it is rated for the supply pressures you intend to use.

Considerations for direct-to-instrument dispensing

  • Design the system to meet applicable safety codes.
  • To maintain reliability and purity, keep all product lines dedicated to a single product.
  • All valves, pipes and fittings should be degreased before installation to maintain solvent purity.
  • For first time system start-up, purge the entire plumbing system with product.
  • Consult the instrument manufacturer for guidance on instrument specific considerations for connecting to pressurized bulk solvent containers.
